The Gospel

This is where I finally found power.  It is the pure, true, inerrant Word of God, all about Jesus Christ, and all written for you and I.  It is the objective standard, and objective because it is of a perfect Deity, and not of broken, sinful, errant humankind.  Without the help of the Holy Spirit, no human could have written such a book… and no one human did.

It really amazes me that God used 40 authors over 1500 years to create the greatest writing that humankind has ever known.  I cannot imagine the intensity of the encounters that guided humans to write this document through His instruction.  I doubt all of the authors experienced the intensity of God at Sinai (Exodus 20), or the complete mental-physical-visual collapse of Paul (Acts 9).  The prophet Elijah also reported experiencing God’s Word as a still, quiet voice.  I pray that I will experience God as Elijah did.  Mostly, I just pray that I experience God’s voice.

And to think that I actually have some control over that!

Jesus promises that I will have an Advocate before God in John 14:16 “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—”.  Paul tells us that the Advocate helps us understand what God has said to us in 2 Corinthians 2:13 “This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.”  Through prayer, we can ask through the Spirit for the wisdom to understand the Gospel, as Paul teaches in Romans 8:26 “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.”

We simply have to prayerfully approach Him in His Word – The Gospel.  The answers may not be what we want to hear, but they are the truth and God wants us to know it.  The Gospel offends us because we are sinful, weak and easily offended.  I guess it has something to do with society telling us we’re “entitled” to things.  In my weak, sinful way I fail if left to my own way.  But if I do His will, spoken through His word, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I succeed.

How have you experienced the Gospel?  Will you take time to answer my poll?

I think I will like this ‘blogging’ thing on Faithblog.  You’re welcome to visit my website and find out more about
